The Annual Jewellery Competition Each year, the Scottish Gemmological Association offers a jewellery competition specifically intended to promote the use of gem materials in the work of the students in the jewellery departments of the Scottish Art Schools and Further Education Colleges. The aim of the competition is to design and manufacture an item of wearable gem-set jewellery. Criteria for Judging Entries are judged by a panel of jewellery professionals, who use the following criteria in equal measure:
Students are asked to bear in mind that the piece should emphasize the attributes of the gemstone(s). The 2009 competition was judged on the 19th of March at The Edinburgh College of Art and it was with great pleasure that the SGA announced the following results: First Prize - Ai Yano - Edinburgh College of Art Second Prize - Emma McCallum - Edinburgh College of Art Third Prize - Ed Slater - Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen Highly Commended - Hannah Eccles - Edinburgh College of Art Brian Kivuti - Edinburgh College of Art Emma McFarline - Edinburgh College of Art Emma Reid - Edinburgh College of Art Lindsay Swann - Cardonald College The prizes were presented to the winners at the Annual Conference in Perth on Sunday the 3rd of May. |
