Scottish Gemmological Association Gem-Set Jewellery Design Competition 2010
Context of the Competition
The Scottish Gemmological Association exists to promote and develop interest in the science of gemmology and gem testing to the jewellery trade and wider community in Scotland.
The Association is offering a jewellery competition specifically intended to encourage the use of gem materials in the work of the students in the jewellery departments of the Scottish Art Schools and Further Education Colleges.
The Brief
Design and manufacture an item of wearable gem-set jewellery.
Details
Applicants are required to register with the association on or before 11th DECEMBER 2009 and pay an entrance fee of £5.00 to enter the competition. For this fee each applicant will receive a collection of gemstones.
In keeping with the aims of the association, the student should base the design of an item of jewellery round one or more gemstones and it is hoped that the stones provided may be a useful starting point for this purpose. However, any other natural or synthetic gemstone(s) may be the focus of the student’s finished piece.
Criteria for Judging
The entries will be judged by a panel of jewellery professionals, who will use the following criteria in equal measure:
Students should bear in mind that the piece should emphasize the attributes of the gemstone(s).
